It wasn’t difficult to put down, but whenever I picked it up again I was quite happy picking up where I left off. It was interesting and imaginative, but not overly gripping. I’ll be honest, it took me a long time to read this one (it was my bus book) as I kind of grazed on it over the course of a year. This was a really well written novel and a solid precursor to the Black Magician Trilogy. However, there is a new threat approaching and suddenly Tessia has to prepare for a battle unlike any she could ever have imagined. With her father hiring a male apprentice from the village to replace her and her mother pressuring her to find a husband, Tessia realises this may be her only opportunity to prove herself. But when she impulsively taps into a new power to defend herself, she sees it as an opportunity to take her healing abilities to the next level. Synopsis: Tessia never particularly wanted to be a magician she just wanted to heal people.
